Sex Addiction

Sex Addiction:

At Hira Health we’ve create a program that specializes in the treatment of Sex and Love addiction. Individuals who suffer from these addictions have an unusual fascination with or fixation on sex and relationships. Whether there is constant daydreaming about sex, obsession over relationships or lack thereof, sex and love addiction takes over and controls an individual’s thinking, making it challenging to work or manage healthy personal relationships.

Despite serious consequences that may happen as a result of a variety of high risk acting out behaviors, the sex addict finds them-self with the inability to stop certain behaviors.

Love addicts experience the same potential consequences as a result of not being able to respect boundaries in a relationship and or control obsessive thoughts about a partner.

What are the Effects of Sex and Love Addiction?

People suffering from Sex and Love addiction often struggle with compulsive thoughts about sex and excessively engaging in behaviors like sex texting and pornography. Individuals struggling with sex addiction will usually find only slight or limited satisfaction in their sexual activities and develop little or no real attachment to their sex partners. Similar to drug use, they tend to build a tolerance around these behaviors. The addiction progresses like any other, for example, addicts will look for more dangerous methods of achieving the same high, like that experienced by a drug addict.  These behaviors are almost always associated by feelings of guilt, shame and poor self-esteem. These feelings are most often accompanied by broken relationships, divided families and problems at work.

What is Love Addiction:

Love addiction centers around individuals who seek fulfillment through other people, typically partners they are already in an existing relationship with, or emotionally unavailable people. The addict becomes obsessed with the object of their addiction, leading towards the addict’s inability to respect boundaries in a relationship that is existing or has already ended.

The other side of love addiction is explained as individuals who are anorexic about relationships and avoid the prospect of any future relationships with another individual. These behaviors are also known as relationship avoidance.

These behaviors many times are associated with fear, shame, delusional thinking and guilt over the addict’s past, which is projected into their everyday life, seeking validation to make them whole.
